LANAP®: Laser Gum Disease Therapy:
A Revolutionary, Gentler Alternative to
Traditional Gum Surgery
Because of Dr. Chellis' passionate and ongoing commitment to your dental health, she is proud to be the first in the Seattle area to offer LANAP® (Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure) also known as LPT™ (Laser Periodontal Therapy™) for the treatment of gum disease.
LANAP® is a patient-friendly, minimally-invasive, patented new non-surgical laser alternative to gum surgery, and is a less painful, less traumatic way to treat periodontal disease at any stage. With LANAP® Laser Periodontal Therapy, the laser actually stimulates regeneration of bone and forms a new attachment to your teeth. This is the first ever procedure that can help grow back lost gum and bone!
We take our gums for granted. Yet they're the unsung heroes of our mouths. The soft cushion that nestles the teeth must be properly cared for as part of your regular regime to foster a healthy mind and body. Gingivitis, which is the beginning form of periodontal disease, can be remedied quite effectively with effective tooth brushing and flossing, combined with regular dental hygiene visits.
But when you are unable to prevent gum disease, medical treatment is the only option. In years past, your choices were only traditional gum surgery or scaling and root planing, which simply slows the progress of the disease.
Statistics indicate nearly 80 percent of Americans have some form of gum disease - and nearly 50% of cases are considered moderate or severe. Despite the prevalence of this silent disease, more than 97 percent of those in need refuse the traditional treatment of periodontal flap surgery and risk tooth loss and other health challenges as a result. Why? Patients report a perception that conventional "cut and sew" procedures are often painful, require weeks of healing - and worse, are largely ineffective at curing periodontal disease in the long term. Most people choose to go untreated year after year - in part, due to their fear of periodontal surgery.
LANAP® (Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure®), is an amazing breakthrough in periodontal treatment. If you have been told you need gum surgery, there's a laser alternative you need to learn about.
If you're like 100 million other Americans, you could be one of the 50% of Americans who have moderate to severe gum disease, the major cause of tooth loss in adults.
Gum disease is Periodontal disease, and it starts off as plaque, an opaque film which eventually hardens, forming "tartar" or calculus. Calculus deposits harbor bacteria which infect the gums.
In early stages, this is called Gingivitis, characterized by red, swollen gums that may bleed when you brush your teeth. Many people experience bad breath and an unpleasant taste in their mouths as well.
Unchecked, Gingivitis progresses to Periodontitis, a much more serious form of the disease where periodontal pockets are formed, separating teeth from the gums and supporting bone structure. Without treatment, infection becomes severe and the pockets deepen, resulting in eventual tooth loss.
For moderate to severe gum diseases, dentists have traditionally used scaling/root planing (deep cleaning) or osseous surgery (gum surgery) to treat or simply maintain the severity of the disease. But the main cause of the disease, bacteria, is left inside of the gum tissue to re-infect the mouth again.
Today, Dr. Chellis offers LANAP®, Laser Periodontal Therapy, a patient-friendly, minimally-invasive procedure that's a great improvement over standard gum surgery.
She uses the Perio-Lase® MVP-7™ Digital Laser which targets and kills the main cause of gum disease, such as P. Gingivalis, residing deep within the gum tissue. With LANAP® Laser Periodontal Therapy, your gum tissue is given a second chance to rebuild damaged structure such as bone and form a new attachment to your teeth. LANAP® is a patented new non-surgical laser alternative to gum surgery, and is a less painful, less traumatic way to treat periodontal disease at any stage.
